We would like to welcome you and your child to the fifth grade! This year will be both exciting and challenging. We are looking forward to having the opportunity to work with your child.
This year, we will be exploring topics in Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies, and Science. Students will be working with their peers in an environment that is supportive and targeted to meet each student’s needs. Every night, students will continue to take home their book bags.
Homework will be provided at the end of each school day. Homework can increase your child’s school achievement, teach good study skills, and motivate learning. Homework is your child’s responsibility. However, help them develop a responsible attitude toward homework by providing a quiet space, a set homework time, and some assistance if needed. Your child should be bringing home their Writer’s Notebook and their Math Investigations Student Activity Book on a daily basis. Your child will also have a Student Math Handbook. The Student Math Handbook will be a helpful reference tool during homework time. In addition to student homework, we encourage that your child reads a book of their choice for at least 40 minutes after school.
Please answer the questions on the following page and return this sheet back to school as soon as possible. We look forward to meeting you in the upcoming weeks!
